In his lecture The mana of the gift: Pacific cultures, colonial power, contemporary art, Nicholas Thomas will speak about Māori artefacts, how they came into European museums and how contemporary artists activate them today.

The event accompanies the special exhibtion He Toi Ora–A Living History. Connecting Carved Māori Treasures in the Museum Fünf Kontinente which emerged from the research project Thinking through wood, conducted by curator Hilke Thoda-Arora at Museum Fünf Kontinente.
