Back to visual galleryAccording to Felbermayer's register stored in Museo Fonck, this piece was carved by Pedro Atan Pakomio. He was as an important Rapanui leader between the 1930s and 1960s, and an informant of Thor Heyerdahl in 1955. When Atan Pakomio left Rapa Nui to live in Chile in the 1960s, his Chilean house in the village of Quilpué became a reception center for many Rapanui migrants and a place to learn how to carve wood where he taught the next generation of Rapanui artis.
