The Great Lakes of Rotuma
After a recent trip to Rotuma with Philipp Schorch, Vilsoni Hereniko weaponized humor and satire to address a matter of concern in The Fiji Times:
I just got back from Rotuma (Jan. 31st) and thought I should pass on a new attraction now available on my beloved island. Called “The Great Lakes of Rotuma,” this wonder appears as lakes of muddy water on the only road that meanders around the island. Some of these lakes are 12 inches deep. Sometimes four or five of them are so close together they threaten to transform the road into the Rewa river. Each successful road trip on a rainy day in Rotuma is a miracle, especially if you can safely navigate the great lakes between Hapmak and the airport. Please make an effort to see the Great Lakes of Rotuma at least once in your lifetime. It is one of the new wonders of the world.
