Vilsoni Hereniko

Academy for Creative Media, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

Vilsoni Hereniko is a professor, author, playwright and filmmaker at the Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawaiʻi. Originally from Rotuma, he has a PhD from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji. His research focuses on Indigenous cultures, especially issues related to climate change, the politics of representation in media and the arts of Oceania. Vilsoni's feature film The Land Has Eyes had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and was an official selection at more than thirty Indigenous and international film festivals. It was also Fiji's nomination for the Academy Awards in 2005.
