Vilsoni Hereniko

Vilsoni Hereniko is a professor, author, playwright and filmmaker at the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Hawaiʻi. Originally from Rotuma, he has a PhD from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji. His research focuses on Indigenous cultures, especially issues related to climate change, the politics of representation in media and the arts of Oceania. Vilsoni's movies Sina ma Tinirau and Woven were screened at various Indigenous and international film festivals and won several prices. In summer 2025, he is affiliated with LMU Munich as CAS research fellow.
